Tupac Amaru II (1742-1781), leader of indigenous uprising in 1780 against the Spanish in Peru. Although unsuccesful, he later became a mythical figure in the Peruvian struggle of independence and indigenous rights movement. Tupac Amaru II was beheaded after being tortured by the Spaniards.
